Time, Life and death, Madness, Depression and Addiction
I express the fear of becoming old, wrinkled and unattractive. These depicted characters are worried and invest their time trying to perfect their exteriors, their bodies, sometimes achieving the absurd and ridiculous just to please others, or as a form of competition, or even just to look at themselves in the mirror.
Depression is a terrible illness. I have suffered it and I have lived among many persons who were depressed for many reasons: physical or moral violence, discrimination, loneliness and rejection because of old age, skin color, social status, and for lack of opportunities for personal development.
Sometimes depression is so unbearable for some humans, that they come to the decision to take their own lives to cease the pain, becoming the owners and masters of their own life.
I also talk about the death of the soul, the death of consciousness. I paint those that refuse to open their eyes and see what is happening around them, those who choose to be living deaths, working as robots with a nonsense way of life without a reason for living, without a purpose…
Who is completely sane or completely insane? Again, in each one of us there is always a combination of the two extremes.
